Direct
3D Benchmarks:
Let's get a baseline on performance with our
favorite Benchmark Suite, 3DMark
2000.

Here
are some readings taken on an Abit Siluro GeForce2
64MB card with the same driver release and test
system, for comparison.

Even
though the test was performed on the exact same
system with identical drivers, the Abit Siluro
shows a slight lead at every resolution. The
edge shown here versus the Prophet II GTS 64 is
not small enough to be called insignificant but
not a show stopper either. It will be
interesting to see if the Prophet II GTS 64 can
show its prowess when over-clocked. However,
at default speeds in 3DMark, it is slightly slower
than the Siluro.
Direct
3D with FSAA Benchmarks:
Let's give you a look at another Direct 3D
test. However this time, we'll give
you a feel for the impact of FSAA on performance
within a game that really benefits from it.
Hasbro's Nascar Heat looks fantastic with 2X2 FSAA
turned on. The cars look smooth and the
horizon has a lot less "swimming" going
on, as it is drawn on the screen.

As
you can imagine, 40 frames per second is plenty
fast for a Racing Simulation and the visuals were
great.
OpenGL
Performance:
MDK2
is getting to be an emotional favorite around here
as an alternative to the endless sea of Quake3
Arena benchmarks that inevitably are posted with
any review of a current graphics
accelerator. The game engine is very slick
and it has a solid repeatable benchmark / testing
interface. Here are how things stacked up.

Fantastic
performance numbers are put up on the board here
by both cards. Again, for what ever reason,
the Abit 64MB GeForce card takes the lead in every
test versus the Prophet II 64. However, the
margins are quite small and here the negligible
difference is quantified. The human eye can
not perceive this small deviation.
Let's
look at some Q3 numbers and give you our report on
what you may be itching to know by now. How well
does the Prophet II 64 over-clock with all
the pretty cooling hardware on it.
